El dia puede ser resumido de la siguiente manera: caminar, caminar, seguir caminando, y volver a caminar. En total caminamos 11.8 millas! No sé por qué pensamos que era una buena idea caminar del hotel hasta el Louvre. Fueron 2.8 millas con una temperatura en los 30F. Estupidos? Locos? Use el adjetivo que mas le guste. Nuestro tour del Louver se concentro en la sala Denon que cubre esculturas griegas, romanas, renacimiento, y pinturas francesas. Tengo que decir que estuvo excelente. Las otras alas se quedaran para otras visitas. BTW, ver La Monalisa es chevere, pero puedo vivir tranquilo si no la vuelvo a ver.
Del Louvre caminamos otra milla hasta la Catedral de Notre Dame. Por fuera la catedral no dice mucho, puedo mencionar por lo menos 10 catedrales en Italia y España que la dejan atrás en belleza y tamaño. Pero era una de las paradas obligadas. Siguiendo nuestro audio tour (de nuestro amigo Rick Steves), caminamos por el vecindario latino (no tiene que ver con los latinoamericanos), Saint-Chapelle, el Conciergerie, Plaza Dauphine, terminando en Pont Neuf. De todos esos lugares lo mejor es la capilla de Saint-Chapelle. Sus vitrales son fantásticos!
Una vez mas decidimos caminar de regreso al hotel. Ya esto no es de estupidos, es de soberanos morones! A diferencia de en la mañana, tanto los jardines frente al Louvre como los Campos Elisios estaban repletos de gente paseando. Esto no es nada del otro mundo, pero cuando ya usted ha caminado mas de 9 millas, toda esa gente molesta.
Today can be summarized in one word, WALKING! We walked 11.8 miles throughout the day. We made the stupid decision to walk from our hotel to the Louvre Museum (2.8 miles) in 30F weather, with a windchill factor that made feel like 20F. Anyway, our audio tour took us through the Denon wing of the Louvre. This wing cover greek and roman sculptures, as well as the renaissance and french master pieces. The Monalisa was cool but I won’t feel bad if I don’t see it again. You could say that it was somewhat underwhelming.
From the museum we walked another mile and change to the Notre Dame Cathedral. Another let down… I can mentioned at least 10 cathedral a lot more beautiful and grander than Notre Dame. Luckily there was no cover charge to go inside. Our audio tour had us walk through the latin quarter, Saint-Chapelle, the Conciergerie, Place Dauphine, ending at Pont Neuf. From all the places we visited, Saint-Chapelle was the most beautiful and interesting.
At the end of the tour we made the stupid mistake, once again, to walk all the way back to the hotel. Yes, you’re right… we are total morons! A big difference from our early walk, is that the Louvre gardens as well as the Champs-Elysees were packed with people. Usually that is nothing to worry about. But when your legs are dead tire, you hate every one that makes break your stide.
